Boodles British Dry Gin 700mL
An invitingly herbal and woodsy initial aroma of sage, nutmeg and cassia bark; more minutes find the juniper behind the assertive spice and herb flavorings. The palate entry is round, semisweet and moderately oily; at midpalate the taste is of rosemary and coriander and pepper. Finishes elegantly, firmly and squeaky clean.
Every batch of Boodles Gin is made with labour and patience. It begins as a clean spirit distilled from British wheat and is then infused with a number of traditional herbs and spices including nutmeg, sage and rosemary.
Boodles British Dry Gin 45.2% takes its name from Boodle's gentleman’s club in St. James's, London and is now produced at the Greenalls distillery. Famous members of Boodle's gentleman’s club included former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming, which of course makes Boodles an obvious choice for a Vesper.
Churchill also enjoyed gin however and Boodles may have been his favourite brand. I read a story the other day of how Winston added so little vermouth to his Gin Martinis that sometimes a mere glance in the direction of France would suffice!
