Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Anejo Tequila Aged 12 Years 750mL

Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Anejo Tequila Aged 12 Years is a super rare aged Tequila from the legend Enrique Fonseca. Enrique Fonseca's massive Tequileña distillery is a veritable laboratory of tequila production and the experimental lots of extra añejo that comprise the Fuenteseca project were never intended for commercial sale. These barrels were laid down in a subterranean cellar, where the cool environment was intended to allow them to age for years beyond what was otherwise considered desirable. This single-harvest tequila is a blend of column- and pot-distilled products which were vatted together before being aged in American oak ex-red wine barrels (85%) and used French oak (15%). This is the youngest batch of Fuenteseca but is still eons older than almost anything else on the market.

The nose is so enticing, with a lovely herbal quality. I get thyme and basil, with flecks of freshly sawn wood, tree sap, and touches of butterscotch. The entry is rich and round with pepper and spice followed by roasted agave. It is distinctly fatter on the palate and this could be due to the fact that, as opposed to the 9 year above, Enrique opted to use the Copper pot still for 80% of the distillate. Ninety percent of the spirit was then put into ex-American red wine casks with the remaining 10% aged used dark French oak casks.

Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Anejo Tequila Aged 12 Years 750mL. Distilled in November 2003, with 80% from copper double-column still and 20% distilled from alembic copper pot still. After marrying, 85% of the run was laid in American white oak previously used to age California red wine, and the remaining 15% barreled in used dark French Oak. The casks were then aged for 12 years, at 3,800” elevation, in the town of Tequila, Jalisco in a cool-climate subterranean storeroom
