The Glencadam Distillery was mothballed in 2000 and reopened in 2003. This 13 year old single malt has been bottled to mark 13 years since the distillery was revived and hence have named the bottle ‘The Reawakening’. Matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels for not less than 13 years and bottled at 46% abv.

Each of the 6000 bottles produced are individually numbered.

“We are fortunate enough to be able to produce excellent malt at Glencadam and we are also blessed by being able to retain age statements on the vast majority of our releases,” said brand development director, Duncan Baldwin.

“The Re-Awakening 13 Year Old edition is characterised by its rich flavours of ripe fruit accompanied by smooth vanilla sweetness, resulting in a taste to meet the most discerning of whisky lovers preferences.”

The new bottling joins three variants in 2016: the 17-year-old Triple Cask Portwood Finish, the 19-year-old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish and the 25 Year Old.

About Glencadam:

Glencadam first opened in 1825, in the ancient city of Brechin. This was the year that the first horse-drawn omnibuses were established in London, the world's first modern railway opened, with the first public train pulled by steam engine, Cox's Orange Pippin apples were first grown and London became the largest city in the world, over-taking Beijing. It was little more than one year after the Excise Act of 1823 legalised distilling.

Glencadam Aged 13 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes:

Nose: A freshly opened packet of marshmallows, lemon tart with buttery pastry, vanilla fudge and fruit compote.

Taste: Dominated by citrus at first, refreshingly juicy and flavoursome. Pears and grapefruit, caramel and a nutty burnt butter, malted barley and white pepper. Very well balanced.

Finish: There’s the fruit compote again, touch of hazelnut and some lingering spice. Vanilla sponge and toasted walnuts.
