Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 750mL

Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 750mL The Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz is one of the most important shiraz vintages in recent times. Slow ripening conditions during the growing process have produced an intensely flavoured shiraz with impressive colour, high acidity and fine, mature tannins. An investment-grade wine that will become exceptional with proper cellaring.

Vineyards and Winemaking: 90-year-old single-vineyard (low-yielding vines) shiraz grapes from the Mount Edelstone vineyard in the Eden Valley. Harvest between March 27-29. 18 months maturation in 87% French and 13% American (68% seasoned and 32% new) hogsheads. The 100-year-old vines were planted by Ronald Angas in 1912 in ancient ancient 500-million-year-old soils that include deep red-brown clay-loam to clay.

Tasting Notes: A deep crimson shiraz with garnet highlights around the edges. Frangrent ripe plums, blueberries, blackberries, fresh bay leaf and sage aromas. Rich and complex palate with concentrated dark fruit flavours and spice. Herbaceous hints highlight the tight acidic structure of the shiraz. Cellaring: Exceptional vintage best enjoyed after extended cellaring of 25+ years.

Awards & Praise

"Vivid, deep purple-crimson; this is a blue-blood aristocratic shiraz, certain in its supreme power, length and balance, and not going out to prove anything. If anyone doubts its quality now, the scales will fall from their eyes over the decades ahead, as it will be recognised by all and sundry as one of the greatest Mount Edelstones." 96 Points, James Halliday, Wine Companion "Deep red with a tinge of purple, the bouquet spicy, sooty and charcoaly over sweetly berry-like fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and drying, with a touch of raspberry in the mid-palate and fine-grained, dusty, smoky tannins on the finish. Good length; very good intensity. A very polished, elegant wine of perfect ripeness, which is fruit-driven. While its distinction may not be obvious to all and sundry today, it's undoubtedly there. There's no excess of alcohol, oak or ripeness: all the pieces are in the right place. (Footnote, after the identity was revealed: this wine's pedigree will emerge the longer it's cellared. I'd have full confidence in it)." 97 Points, Huon Hooke
