Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish Limited Edition 700mL
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish 700mL 46% ABV
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish is the first of the brand's new annual release limited editions. Each variant in this new series will be finished in a different wood. Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish starts with Cardhu Single Malt which is then blended with other grain whiskies. It has been aged for 10 years in first-fill American oak casks that previously aged bourbon, before finishing for six months in American rye casks.
"From the early days when John Walker first blended whiskies in 1820 to the unique blends created today, Johnnie Walker has always thrived on experimentation. I believe that whisky is ever evolving and experimental in nature and I am pleased to present the first rye cask finished blended Scotch whisky." Master Blender Jim Beveridge.
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish is now among the proud ranks of Johnnie Walker original whiskies. And there are more to come! If you're a rye fan or a Johnnie Walker fan, get into this whisky today.
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Finish Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep amber gold with a brown, wooden tint.
Aroma: Sweet and spicy. Elements of cinnamon, maple syrup, rye and vanilla. Oak is definitely present.
Palate: Dry palate with intense wood spices. Hints of freshly sawn oak, cedarwood, baking spices (cinnamon, mace and nutmeg) and bittersweet cereals. Notes of candied orange peel, vanilla and that rye flavour carries through.
Finish: Medium to long finish with lingering spiciness (ginger) and sweetness (maple syrup) on the fade. Hints of vanilla and cereals remain for a short time as well. All in all this is a delicious whisky.
