Kings County Single Malt Whiskey 375mL

Kings County Single Malt Whiskey is Limited. KC’s Single Malt predates their “stunningly lovely” (Jim Murray) Peated Bourbon. In fact, it was a leftover batch of peated malt from this Whiskey’s production that led the distillery to invent the aforementioned avant-garde Bourbon. This sophisticated, elegant Single Malt is open-fermented from malted barley (with a hint of peat) sourced from both English and Scottish granaries. The Whiskey is twice distilled in traditional Scottish pot stills, then aged in used Bourbon barrels for up to four years. At 47%, there’s a higher post-cask strength than KC’s Bourbon offerings. Opening with a hint of Speyside elegance, this funky ‘New York Scotch’ revels in flavours of honey, hay, burnt orange peel and a lick of toasted almond and peat smoke on the finish.

With their reputation (and demand) soaring in the US, Kings County’s tiny scale releases of craft Whiskey are now getting harder and harder to buy. All four new releases below are now strictly allocated by the distillery and released to existing clients in very limited quantities. Of course, this burgeoning demand reflects the quality of the liquid being bottled and these smoking new releases represent some of the most exciting brown spirits we have tasted in recent times. The Empire Rye is KC’s first batch of rye released under this new ‘category’. In order to be sold as Empire Rye, theWhiskey must be comprised of a minimum 75% New York State-grown rye and be mashed, fermented, distilled, barrelled and aged at a single New York State distillery in a single distilling season—among other quality parameters. The current bottling of the Barrel Strength Bourbon includes some of the oldest material from Kings County’s inventory and this extra age shows through in the glowing richness and depth of flavour of this striking release. One of the things we love most about Kings County is their sense of adventure. The distillery’s crazy good Peated Bourbon is a case in point, and now we have secured a small parcel of their Single Malt, a sophisticated ‘New York Scotch’. It was open-fermented off the grain from malted barley (including some peated malt) sourced from both English and Scottish granaries. Think Speyside elegance meets Brooklyn funk. Finally, we also offer the new Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon release, which was distilled in Autumn 2013 and bottled this past Spring. With more age on this release, Jim Murray was moved to write that this spirit is, “Easy to mistake as fine old Kentucky bourbon; there’s no higher praise than that!!” It is very good.
