Mount Pleasant B-Side CF14 Dry Red 2014 750mL
Country: Australia
Year: 2014
Varietal(s): Dry Red (Shiraz, Montils)
ABV: 13%
Terroir: Hunter Valley, NSW
Vineyards and Winemaking: 70kg of Montils was hand-picked into buckets. These are then stored in the cold room until the Shiraz is picked two weeks later. Both varieties are de-stemmed with light crushing on top of whole bunches (25%). The cold must was allowed to soak for two days before being inoculated with a Burgundian yeast strain. Fermentation took place over 10 days with cap plunging and traditional Pigeage techniques. After fermentation was complete the wine was pressed in a high-tech Hydropress.
An early and dry vintage of low to moderate crops. This resulted in excellent intensity and depth of flavour across varietals.
Tasting Notes: Red berry notes in a fruity bouquet with brown spice notes. Delicate, soft tannins that lead into a long, soft finish of sour cherry.
Cellaring: Mount Pleasant B-Side CF14 Dry Red 2014 is made to drink now or cellar up to 15 years

Mount Pleasant B-Side CF14 Dry Red 2014 750mL 13% ABV
The late Maurice O'Shea planted the Lovedale vineyard in 1946 with incredible foresight, recognising that the unique structure of the land and the surrounding environment would deliver the tightness and acidity for world-class Dry Red. The Mount Pleasant B-Side CF14 Dry Red 2014 has been finely crafted by Mount Pleasant winemaker Scott McWilliam. Like it says on the side of the bottle:What happens when the winemakers are allowed to experiment? Take a walk on the B-Side...This wine, like the B-Side of your favourite old records, has something special about it. Something different.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Light maroon with purple. Nose: Red berry (cherry, raspberry) with hints of red apple and earthy notes. Subtle brown spice (cinnamon and nutmeg) hints from the Hungarian oak. Palate: Savoury strawberry and cherry with delicate soft tannins, followed by whole bunch stem notes. Sour cherry acidity provides a soft and long finish.Praise
95 Points, James Halliday, Wine Companion 2016Light, bright crimson-scarlet; the bouquet is highly fragrant, the palate a ravishingly juicy array of red fruits, tannins and oak barely making a mark; it is only light to medium-bodied, but don't be fooled: this will coast through many decades.
