Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky Aged 12 Years 700mL
The Pulteney Distillery in Wick is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish Mainland. Matured in fine oak casks, quietly breathing in the fresh sea air, Old Pulteney is the very essence of this unique place. Established in the port of Wick in 1826, this fine single malt is steeped in seafaring history. Back then, the windswept distillery was only accessible by sea and as one of the busiest herring ports in the world, many of the distillery workers were also hardy fishermen. Today, Old Pulteney Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is created using the same traditional methods of the 1800s. The copper wash still, in particular, is a source of fascination to visitors due to the absence of a 'swan neck'. Legend has it, that when the still was delivered, it was too tall for the still house and the manager simply cut the top off! This shape, known as the "smuggler's kettle", contributes to the distinctive style of the whisky. It has also influenced the unique shape of the bottle. Intricate balanced and with a delicate mineral-salted spiciness, Old Pulteney is a distinctive and evocative spirit - truly the "Maritime Malt"! Matured in ex-bourbon casks, Old Pulteney 12 Year Old is the definitive expression in the Old Pulteney family.
Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky 12 Years Old Tasting Notes and ReviewsAppearance: Deep amber, red golden (with a slight pink hue), sparkling with a copper glow. Aroma: Medium to high intensity and complexity. Dry with a hint of sea air. Tasting Notes: Dry, medium bodied and smooth, redolent of honey and cream, faintly salty with a slight spicy note and a sweet long lasting finish. The aromas sweeten slightly with aeration releasing hints of fruit. The palate builds into a medium dry, biscuity, grassy profile with a pleasantly spicy burst. Finish is dry and salty. Concludes crisp and fresh with delicate bready notes followed by a late sulphury tang that’s subtle enough to be a complexing factor. In the Scotch Single Malt spectrum this belongs at the aperitif end. It is all the more refreshing for its individuality. 40% Alc./Vol "Unashamedly excellent and deserves more recognition around the world." Jim Murray, Whisky Bible
