Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 750mL
First made in 1982, the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was conceived as a flagship wine for the Wynns portfolio. The wine honours pasturalist and parliamentarian John Riddoch, who was the largest land-owner in South Australia’s south-east corner. With his brother George, the two owned the freehold to more than 70,000 acres.
John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is made in small quantities from the best available fruit grown on the estate’s extensive Cabernet plantings. It has become the definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, and is arguably richer and more concentrated than any other wine in the region.
Made only in years when grapes of extraordinarily high quality are available; less than one per cent of the top Cabernet grapes are used to make it.

About Wynns Coonawarra Estate:
Considered the region’s pre-eminent wine producer, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the largest single vineyard holder with arguably the best and longest-established sites in Coonawarra. The terra rossa soil and cool climate produce low yields of intensely flavoured grapes, and the resulting wines are renowned for their richness and longevity. The estate was pioneered by John Riddoch, who planted vineyards in 1891 and completed the estate’s famous triple-gabled winery in 1896. Today, Wynns Coonawarra Estate wines are regarded as a benchmark for the district.
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Maturation: 16 months in French oak (21% new).
Colour: Dense and bright, with a purple hue.
Nose: Dark, concentrated aromatics of black olive, mulberry and baked meats are elegantly fused with bay leaf and fennel seed, creating anopulent and complex wine.
Palate: Supple and polished, this wine first displays concentrated black olive and mulberry, which lead to elegant tobacco, cassis and hints of rosemary. Powerful and restrained, the melding of concentrated dark fruit, subtle savoury notes and definitive, firm, bright chalky tannins, create a timeless wine with phenomenal purity and savory spice finish.
