Maker's Mark is aged for around six years, being bottled and marketed when the distillery tasters agree that the bourbon is ready. Maker's Mark is one of the few distillers to rotate the barrels from the upper to the lower levels of the ageing warehouses during the ageing process to even out the differences in temperature during the process. The upper floors of the rick house are exposed to the greatest temperature variations during the year, so rotating the barrels ensures that the bourbon in all the barrels have the same quality and taste. Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky 200mL makes for a strong, Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, encompassing flavours of vanilla and nut. It is one of the pioneering top shelf bourbons from the 1950s and 60s. It's marketing tagline in the early days was "It tastes expensive...and it is." Makers Mark 200mL is produced in small batches i.e A bourbon that is produced/distilled in small quantities of approximately 4,500 litres (20 barrels) or less from a mash bill of around 200 bushels of grain.
