NED Green Sash Reserve Australian Whisky 700mL

NED Green Sash Reserve Australian Whisky pays homage to Ned Kelly’s character by pushing the boundaries of traditional whisky production.  In an act of bravery, Ned Kelly saved a boy from drowning and was awarded a green sash. He wore this sash as a symbol of courage wearing it for the final time at his last stand in 1880.

The NED team were committed to experimentation when creating this Green Sash Whisky.  This reserve grade spirit results from a bold approach to the maturation process, a technique tested with NED Whisky’s Gold Medal and Trophy-winning Wanted Series collection and refined further with this new expression.

NED Green Sash Reserve Australian Whisky is created from fine Victorian grain, sourced from a local farmers’ co-op before being turned into a triple grain sour mash fermentation. Corn is added to give the resulting liquid a softer, more mellow texture and impart flavours of vanilla and caramel while soft orange and fruit flavours come through from the wheat and barley.

Harvested over oak for additional character, resulting in flavours of caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate with a long finish of sweet oak and orange, making NED Green Sash a truly extraordinary whisky.

NED was born from a desire to create a locally-crafted Australian whisky that gave Australian dark spirits drinkers a genuine choice and something to call their own. NED are not interested in imitating others and are forging their own path to create something uniquely Australian. One that, like its namesake, forges its own story on Australian land.

First, they select only the finest Australian grain to mash and ferment using a proprietary process that takes the best of single malt production and combines it with sour mash techniques to create a spirit that is fiercely independent and unlike anything that has come before it.

Melbourne’s climate provides the perfect stage, its temperature variations across all seasons encouraging the whisky to move slowly in and out of the oak, drawing the mellowness from the barrel. Aged in American Oak, the Australian Whisky spends its time in barrel until it has its signature boldness and character.

"We’re innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and challengers – but most of all lovers of Australian whisky. The path to today started with our co-founders Drew and Jason and their passion and dream to produce a locally-distilled Australian whisky that all Australian drinkers could be proud of. While we’ve come a long way since that those initial meetings in a Melbourne pub, what hasn’t changed is our commitment to step up to the mark and take on the challenge on our own terms."

When he was just 10-years-old, Ned Kelly saved a boy from drowning in Hughes Creek just outside of Victoria in the small town of Avenel. As a token of gratitude from the boy’s parents, Kelly was awarded a green sash, which historians note was found under his armour at Ned’s land stand in Glenrowan.

Aroma: Oak, caramel, vanilla with hints of almond.

Taste: Rich taste of dark chocolate, sweet vanilla and punch of oak, followed by almond and macadamia.

Finish: Long finish with lasting notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, orange peel and oak.

An overarching flavour that is bathed in dark toffee, orange peel and caramel.

At 44% ABV, Green Sash is designed to be enjoyed neat, but will also take your cocktails to the next level. The Head Distiller recommends a classic Old Fashioned and refreshing tasting Whisky Highball.
