First off - Old Forester 1870 Original Batch Bourbon was not made in 1870! Rather, this is a whiskey that is the first release in what Old Forester is calling its new Whiskey Row Series! This unique series highlights our bourbon’s significant milestones and production innovations with each release. From the first batched bourbon to a post-prohibition era style bourbon, the series will allow consumers to sip Old Forester as it was enjoyed in the late 1800s through the mid-1920s. The initial release is called 1870 Original Batch, and it commemorates the year Old Forester introduced the first “batched” bourbon. Before its release, bourbon was sold by the barrel, which created variance in the taste profiles and quality. And while today single barrel bourbons are prized for their uniqueness, Old Forester’s founder George Garvin Brown was a pioneer, batching and blending bourbon from three different distilleries to create one consistent, replicable product. This method became the industry standard. This is a great bourbon! And if the rest of the Whiskey Row series can match or exceed this, bourbon drinkers are in for a treat. Watch this space!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Very bright and lively with its fruity and floral notes at the forefront. Underneath, vanilla and caramel provide the base and a delightful amount of oak is mixed in. Palate: This a bourbon that actually tastes like it smells. It’s a delightful mingling of vibrant fruit flavours. The sweetness from the carmel and an agreeable amount of oak makes this an easy to enjoy bourbon. Finish: Despite a light body and thin mouthfeel, it has a really nice finish. As the sweetness trails off it finishes with cinnamon, nutmeg and a mix of other baking spices. A light amount of oak can also be tasted throughout the finish and helps provide a lasting aftertaste.
