Woodlands Margaret Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2013 750mL 13.5% ABV%
Winemakers at Woodlands were in the fortunate position of receiving dry growing conditions in 2013. Crops were relatively low compared to previous years, due to higher winds during flowering and consistently warm and dry conditions over the remaining period of growth. The fruit was sourced entirely from the Woodlands vineyard, with the Cabernet Sauvignon portion of the blend sourced from the south slope of the farm, which enjoys abundant sunlight from the morning right through to mid-afternoon. This encouraged a rich and robust wine. Meanwhile, the Merlot and Malbec were grown in deep loam soil on the west-facing slope. This slope receives direct afternoon sunlight and produces grapes that add an exotic twist to the wine.Tasting Notes
Colour & Appearance: Bright crimson. Nose: Cabernet Sauvignon aspects dominate (blackcurrant, cassis, black olive and mulberry) with hints of fine-grained French oak. Palate: A dense and concentrated palate that bursts with ripe red berry fruits. The middle palate is pleasantly succulent, with lush tannins. The finish is powerful and reminiscent of the famous 2003 vintage.A word from the Winemakers, Stewart and Andrew Watson
Margaret is sourced entirely from the Woodlands Vineyard. The cabernet sauvignon plot faces north-east and receives lots of sun, which allows the fruit to ripen to perfection, while the merlot and Malbec plots face west, creating spicy, exotic characters. This wine was handpicked in small batches before being hand sorted, to create more refinement in the finished wine.
