Irvine Primitivo Noir 750mL
Primitivo in Italy, Zinfandel in the USA, whatever we feel like in Australia. Kind of encapsulates the Aussie spirit. In decades past this was almost always made as a blockbuster wine, big alcohol and buckets of fruit. More recently though, things are a-changing. You’ll see prettier red fruits as opposed to figs and raisins, with earlier picking of the grapes resulting in lower alcohols and softer textures.
The USA versions will traditionally show plenty of oak spice, but again on local soils we do what we want, and so you’re just as likely to get a juicy little number as you are a blockbuster. Variety is the spice of life!
Primitivo is traditionally powerful and spicy, but this wine is more Pinot-esque! Fruits like strawberry, cherry, orange peel and pomegranate dominate here, and the wine finishes with silky soft tannin.
